OVER 30 BLENDING

PROJECTS COMPLETED

Featured Blending Projects

Obsidian delivers practical, field-proven blending solutions that help clients maximize product value while meeting sales specifications. Our team has supported butane and multi-stream blending systems across Alberta and North Dakota, from oil battery installations to large terminal facilities.

From concept development and detailed design through commissioning and optimization, we combine multidisciplinary engineering with hands-on field experience to deliver reliable, fit-for-purpose systems that perform under changing product and operating conditions.

TRENTON TERMINAL BLENDING ADDITION

The Trenton Terminal in North Dakota underwent expansion to facilitate butane and heavy oil blending with crude oil.

The upgraded facility now boasts amaximum blended delivery rate of 60,000 barrels per day, with targeted blend ratios of 3% butane and 3% heavy oil.

Notable additions to the terminal infrastructure include heavy oil storage tanks, butane storage bullets, a blend skid, heavy and butane offload stations, as well as metering and pumping infrastructure.

MARTEN HILLS SALES BLENDING SKID

The Marten Hills oil battery, located in Central Alberta, was expanded to facilitate two stream butane and heavy oil blending.

The upgraded oil battery now achieves a maximum blended delivery rate of 16,560 bbl/d, with targeted blend ratios of 5% butane.

The expanded setup includes a blend skid with Coriolis metering, viscosity metering, and an inline vapour pressure analyzer.

CLAIRMONT BATTERY BLENDING ADDITION

The Clairmont oil battery was expanded to facilitate butane and heavy oil blending. The upgraded oil battery now has the capability to perform three stream blending, with blend ratios consisting of 65% light crude, 30% heavy oil, and 5% butane.

The battery expansion involved installing a new tank farm, a butane bullet, a blend skid, product offloading stations, and pumping infrastructure.
