RELIABLE ENERGY SOLUTIONS
FOR MAXIMUM PROFITABILITY
What We Do
Obsidian provides multidisciplinary engineering and project support for behind-the-fence and grid-connected power generation, cogeneration (combined heat and power), high-voltage electrical infrastructure, and energy infrastructure projects. Our experience spans both load and generation grid interconnections, with project support from concept development and feasibility through FEED, detailed engineering, interconnection, construction support, commissioning, and optimization.
With expertise across both power systems and process facilities, our team can evaluate generation and electrical infrastructure in the context of the broader operation, helping clients align power reliability, efficiency, capital investment, emissions, operability, and future growth.

Featured Power Generation Projects
Obsidian has delivered scalable power generation and electrical solutions ranging from 24 VDC low-wattage solar applications to 4,160 VAC steam and natural gas-driven generation systems. With utility and power system experience up to 425 MVA, our team supports projects where reliable, cost-effective, and high-capacity power infrastructure is critical to long-term operational success.
HIGH-RELIABILITY ON-SITE POWER SOLUTIONS UP TO 10MW
Obsidian has provided comprehensive electrical engineering services for standalone power generation packages up to 2 MW and synchronized systems up to a combined 10 MW.
Systems engineered for prime, standby, or synchronized operation
Over 100 natural gas power generation installations successfully deployed across Alberta and British Columbia
HELIUM RECOVERY FACILITY
500 MW BEHIND-THE-FENCE POWER GENERATION DEVELOPMENT
Obsidian is supporting the development of 500 MW of behind-the-fence power generation for a large-scale data centre development, planned for delivery across three phases.
Acting as the client’s representative for power development, Obsidian’s scope includes:
Management of the AESO and transmission facility owner connection processes
Power flow and dynamic system modelling to support regulatory requirements
Capital and operating cost estimating
Design review
Pre-FEED and FEED development and project configuration
Complex availability and reliability modelling
Constructability reviews and schedule development
Assessment of procurement constraints
1.5 GW INTEGRATED POWER GENERATION DEVELOPMENT
Obsidian is supporting the development of 1.5 GW of power generation for a large-scale data centre development, incorporating behind-the-fence and tethered power solutions and planned for delivery across five phases.
Acting as the client’s representative for power development, Obsidian’s scope includes:
Management of the AESO and transmission facility owner connection processes
Power flow and dynamic system modelling to support regulatory requirements
Capital and operating cost estimating
Design review
Pre-FEED and FEED development and project configuration
Complex availability and reliability modelling
Constructability reviews and schedule development
Assessment of procurement constraints
Obsidian successfully completed the design, construction, and commissioning of a pioneering pilot helium purification facility in Alberta. As the first facility of its scale in North America, it achieves ultra-low operating costs through a fully self-powered configuration.
The 2.1 MW Power Generation System Features:
6 x 350 kW, 480 VAC Natural Gas Generator Packages
Synchronization across all 6 units allows for loading and unloading based on demand, optimizing system efficiency and minimizing fuel consumption
MCMAHON COGENERATION EXPANSION
Obsidian supported the expansion of a cogeneration system at the McMahon Gas Plant, adding a 2.1 MW Steam Turbine Generator to boost on-site power capacity and improve energy efficiency.
2.1 MW, 4160 VAC power integrated into existing 4160 VAC site infrastructure
Utilization of surplus steam from existing plant processes to produce both heat and electricity
The result is a more efficient, self-sustaining facility that supports long-term operational and sustainability goals.
